Insecure Writers Support Numero Dos

It's that time again. The first Wednesday of every month The Insecure Writers Support Group gets together and we write about our fears, flaws, insecurities, and inspirations. Thank you Alex J. Cavanaugh for starting this sobfest that I am a part of.

My novel is done. I edited it many times. I formatted many more times. I self published it on Kindle, Nook, and in print.

It looks good. People are buying it and loving it. I'm getting great reviews. My dreams are coming true. What is there to be insecure about?

There's always something, isn't there? Now I worry that my sales won't pick up. I worry that I'll have to go back to a soul-crushing job when I'd be a million times happier writing. I fear I will run out of money and my wife and neurotic dog will starve and hate me for putting them in the poor house.

Okay...that's enough for today. My writing is professional. My book is amazing. The sales will pick up, because good writing get's noticed. That's what I'm going to keep saying to myself as I work on another novel and look for a part time job.

As a treat for visiting, I am leaving you with my drawing of a pivotal scene in my book. I do goofy comics on my blog in almost every post. How could I not in this one? I did this for an interview I did with another blogger. I'm sure he won't mind me using my own drawing here too. My novel is science fiction, but it does have dragons. Enjoy.

Did you get the e-mail I sent requesting an interview for the I Like Cheese Comic, Blog, and Book Review? I sent it to the address in your Blogger About Me.

That character facing off with the dragon is obviously James. He's obsessed with them.

Doug, I didn't. Weird. I would love to do an interview with you.

Michael, you guessed it. He really is.

Brent Wescott said...

I'll be publishing that picture this afternoon with the full interview.

You have a lot less to be insecure about than some of us. Way to be, man!

And I think Doug is making up that he's contacting people like that. He recently claimed that he tried to send me a Facebook message that I never got. Eh, Doug? What do you have to say for yourself?

Charlie Pulsipher said...

I don't know, Brent. Sometimes I wonder if I should have gone the traditional route...and I really am worried about eating. I like eating. I think I'll miss it.

You may be right about Doug. Does cheese cause memory loss?

Brent Wescott said...

Eating is worthwhile, I admit, but I just got my fourth rejection from agents who requested to see my manuscript in the first place. What do I do with that? I might not eat for days (I'm not really that despondent).

And maybe it's not memory loss, but more of a conspiracy. He is running for President, you know.

Charlie Pulsipher said...

Sorry, Brent, that stinks. Your stuff is awesome though. Someone will want it and, if you decide to Indie pub, you've got me to help you through it...even if we both starve.

You're right. He's just saying he sends emails and messages to get more votes.

I did send it, I did. And when I tell creditors I mailed the check I'm telling the truth then, too.

And Brent, I recently sent you another Facebook message. I know it is the real Brent because Xander is the profile picture. So there.

Charlie Pulsipher said...

Sure, Doug. I think you can't tell non-stick-figures apart. We all look the same to you. You just randomly email and message people who could or could not be lemurs for all you can tell. Stickist!

I just sent out a mass mailing. "Attention Random Lemur-People." One of them went to raptorbark. Hopefully you get it.

Charlie Pulsipher said...

Still nothing. I think your email is broken.

i heard some writer at bouchercon say don't worry about sales, just focus on the next book and the sales will come
sounds good to me!

Thanks Jeremy. I try to remember that as often as possible.

This made me laugh (and ya, then cry a little too.) Thanks for the catharsis.

Charlie Pulsipher said...

Thank you, dbs, for reading. I', glad it made you laugh...I'm sorry about the crying.

Oh to have the I'm-worried-my-sales-won't-pick-up problem!! I'd take it! Beats being NOT published any day, right?! Haha!

I'm only being slightly facetious, though, because I know EXACTLY what you mean. Sometimes--even when you know you have a great thing going for ya--its still hard knowing that you could be better.

I had this complext in school. Yes, I know a B is good. But an A is better. And an A+??... now we're talking! Honor roll! [OH yeah! (Despicable Me...)]

Anyway, good luck! I'm sending good telepathic waves your way... Hummmmmm.... hummmmmm....hummmmm

Haha! And now you think I'm a weirdo! Awesome.

P.s. New stalker alert! ( ;

Julie, welcome to my odd blog. I hope you like goofy comics and randomness. I whine about sales one day and then draw skunks sitting on me another.

I'm sure you will be published sooner than you think. Funny, the publishing was the easiest part of the whole process. Thanks for the telepathic waves. I'm pretty sure I felt them...or a big truck drove past. I don't know.

Oh, and weirdos are always welcome here. Always. :)

Hi, new follower and fellow insecure writer here, and can I just say - wow, that picture is fun fun fun! Love dragons. Try not to worry about your sales. From what I understand, these things take time. Trust that your story will keep people wanting to read and recommend it. From the picture, it sounds like a terrific story! I', glad I stopped by!

S.L. Hennessy, glad to have you here. Thank you for liking the picture. They are fun, most of the time. Also, don't worry yourself. I'm sure you'll come close to your idols. Closer than you ever thougt possible. Same advice. Give it time. :)

Blodeuedd, you'd be surprised what you can come up with if you spend a few minutes messing around on Paint.
