Reading in the Bathroom

First, a reminder to enter my contest and win my books. Then, on to the story.

When I was thirteen and living in Florida, I was very into books. I'm still into books, but, since Florida sucked more than suckitude, I was extra into books there.

I read in my bedroom. I read in the living room. I read on the bus. I read everywhere.

My favorite place to read was the bathroom. When you have eight siblings, the bathroom is often the only place to go for some true peace and quiet.

On such a day there came a knock on the door. I wasn't actually using the bathroom. I just was annoyed with my family and had escaped to read.

I ignored it.

The knock came again. More insistent.

I answered.

Again the knocking. Louder, more urgent.

I realized I should probably let someone else use the bathroom. The other one might be in use.

At that moment, my sister did something to infuriate my brother who had been knocking on the door. What did she do? I have no idea. I don't really want to know. This is the result.

Fist through the door.

I nearly peed my pants after spending twenty minutes in the bathroom. That would have been hard to explain.

The blue that you used to color the walls of your illustrations here is very soothing. I think I would have no problem peeing under such conditions.

Classic sibling behavior. I once punched a hole in a door because my brother wouldn't share the popcorn. Yup. I was a tad dramatic too.

HHHHAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
love it!
i try to keep the books i'm reading out of the bathroom. otherwise, my hubs will pick them up, start reading, leave them on the floor, the kids'll take a bath, splashedy-splash, then it's byebyebooky! :(

8 siblings! I had enough trouble with 2.

Your brother was just trying to get away from your sister! The bathroom was his refuge, too, but you had dibs and only out of sheer generosity did you open that door. That's how it worked in my family & I only had 3 sibs (but just 1 br so the math is the same!)

I have been known to use reading as an escape, but I have never felt the urge to urinate while doing so.

@Michael- We actually painted a bathroom that color, but it was in Louisiana. I remember because we used oil based paint and I almost passed out. Yeah. Good place to have the pee scared out of you.

@Andrew- Thank you.

@dbs- Oh the humanity!!! Not sharing popcorn? That door deserved what it got.

@vic- I take books in, but always take them out. The idea of leaving a book behind while someone else uses the bathroom...eeeeewwwww.

@Martin- It was an interesting childhood fighting for seconds and getting in each other's way. We all still eat very fast.

@Kerry- We had some unwritten rules that if someone knocks enough, you get out. It wasn't considered generous. I still got dirty looks as I let them enter.

@Doug- You really should try it sometime. It is very relaxing. :)
